BIMCO -Supporting CSO Alliance

February 23rd 2015
From the inception of CSO Alliance we have been encouraged by BIMCO. With over 1,000 ship owner members and 65% of the world’s fleet by DWT it is a significant supporter to have on side.

Giles Noakes the maritime security officer of BIMCO supported the initial concept and has helped with ideas and insight from the summer of 2013 as the platform has evolved to deliver on CSO needs.

We have run over eight workshops throughout the world and with the membership passing through 100 CSOs, who are responsible for the security of over 5,000 ships, the time came to establish closer links.

In October 2014 CSO Alliance presented to the BIMCO Maritime Security Committee in Copenhagen. They have over 15 board members, who are CSOs, Ship Owners and Ship Managers as well as representatives from key sectors such as the International Group of P&I Clubs.  The committee agreed to a one year trial to see what assistance BIMCO and its members could give. There are no guarantees and future support has to be earned.

In the first instance and where possible BIMCO will join and support CSO Alliance workshops. Many CSOs companies are members of BIMCO, but not all, so this helps spread the good word.

There will naturally be some marketing synergies and information exchange, where appropriate, to better support CSOs in their daily tasks.

The benefits and the impact of BIMCO support are not wasted on CSO Alliance. We retain our independence, but respect and look forward to driving the potential synergies.
