CSO Alliance and BIMCO London breakfast briefing

October 13th 2015
On Wednesday 9 September over one hundred invited guests received an insight into the future of maritime security. A snapshot into the latest thinking on the subject was provided by the following speakers:

EUNAVFOR General Martin Smith
BIMCO Giles Noakes
CSO Alliance Mark Sutcliffe

The lessons for CSOs from the General were that although the number of incidents has reduced, they must not forget the intent and capability from Somalia when preparing voyage risk assessments. The military co-ordination service will remain to support the Merchant Marine whatever the naval asset flow.

Giles Noakes announced the strengthening of the BIMCO Maritime Security team with the appointment of Phil Tinsley. As part of their security drive all BIMCO CSOs and their Captains will be receiving Bridge Cards for guidance on checking serial numbers on weapons and also how to deal with migrants who may be boarded. He also confirmed that BIMCO will sponsor all their Ship Owner member CSOs for a six-month trial membership of CSO Alliance.

CSO Alliance gave a short brief on why we created the platform, the key deliveries, the sixteen CSO workshops we have run and the development plans 2015/16
