Doha, Qatar CSO Workshop

February 23rd 2015
With a strong maritime and offshore industry, Qatar is home to numerous CSOs. We are delighted that CSOs and DPAs from the Qatari LNG Chartering, Ship Owning and Offshore community wanted to join together for a CSO Alliance workshop.

The event was held at the InterContinental Hotel and in conjunction with Giles Noakes, Chief Maritime Security Officer for BIMCO. The event focused on current maritime security issues, best practice and counter-piracy in the Indian Ocean, Asia and West Africa.

The workshop covered:

  • Insight from the hard-earned experiences of BIMCOs 1,000 ship owner members.
  • A demonstration from CSO Alliance of their platform, which has membership of over 100 CSOs responsible for the security of 5,000 ships, 10% of the world fleet, including Cruise, Super Yacht, Offshore platform and supply craft and fishing fleets.
  • Discussion and debate rooted in seafarer needs – lead by a PMSC team leader who has completed many transits and handled several pirate attacks.

The event went better than we dreamed, and we were delighted to see substantial engagement from the LNG community. Some feedback from the room suggested attendees would like to see us develop a DPA Alliance to cover safety issues in the same methodical way CSO Alliance deals security. Is this something you would like to see developed? Let us know your feedback.
