Arrests 38 illegal fishing vessels in four months
The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Warri naval base, has taken a delivery of three patrol boats to add to existing ones to checkmate crimes including oil theft in Nigerian waterways.

This is just as no fewer than 38 thieving ships, out of which eight were Chinese fishing vessels, have been arrested and impounded since January 2014.

These were disclosed by the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, on Monday, during a familiarisation visit to Navy Air Station, Naval Hospital, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and other facilities of the force under NNS Delta, Warri, Delta State.

He said that the force was expecting the delivery of three offshore patrol vessels, one from the United States by August this year and two from China before next year.

Rear Admiral Jibrin, who was received and conducted round by the Commander,  NNS Delta, Captain Musa Gemu, stated that the Federal Government was up and doing in making the job of waterway surveillance easy for men of the force through the provision of platforms to work with.

?You know we have always requested the Federal Government to look at our direction with respect to the provision of platforms; this is now being addressed and I have just equally told you that we have taken delivery of four boats and they added to the NNS Delta?s impetus to be able to do our job well. Once these are properly deployed, I think these excesses should be brought to the barest minimum,? Jibrin stated.
