The Monaco Yacht Show

November 6th 2015
In Port Hercules in the Principality of Monaco the Monaco Yacht Show has been showcasing the best the industry has to offer since 1991. This year over 120 superyachts were on display.

CSO Alliance were encouraged to attend by Capt. Adrian McCourt of Watkins Superyachts, one of our founding CSO members, to establish how our delivery could meet the needs of superyacht captains and their crews. We track all maritime crime around the world, so are always interested in how other sectors manage their risk.

As ambassadors of the Merchant Marine looking to explore synergies to fight organised crime we were extremely well received by the Monaco Yacht Show organisers. We were given a guided tour and passes to all areas. They also invited us to run a CSO Alliance Superyacht Captain and Crew Security workshop at the show in 2016.

There is crime in this sector but the reporting is not standardized, making it difficult to assess and verify. We presented the platform to both Captains and Crews from a selection of different devices and their feedback showed there is both a need and a demand for what we can offer. When you see articles in Maritime Security Review[1] such as a German couple hijacked from their yacht in Indonesia, it is clear that information sharing with our proven service would be fully supported.

Our entry into the Superyacht sector has received interest and offers of support from supplier companies ranging from yacht managers to underwriters, P&I, Insurance brokers and lawyers. David Goldie of Akula Yachts[2], one of our Profiled Suppliers, has been key in offering valuable insight and contacts. We take a collaborative approach to developing a credible solution. This is a delivery we look forward to progressing in 2016.
